The first California export grade cherries began a few days ago. The harvest is light this season with volumes down 55% from 2017. Early varieties in the southern districts were impacted by spring weather, and volumes will continue to be light until late next week. The first strong export variety has been Coral Champagne Cherries. Surprisingly very good firmness, above average brix (sugar), and larger-than-normal row size percentages.
Today's packout averages are as follows:
FOB prices remain high for another few days until volumes increase. Fumigated and non-Fumigated cherries are available. Rainier cherries and Bing Cherries expected to start harvesting in the next week. More photos are available at www.cherrysnobs.com Please contact us for a more in-depth market report. Sutherland ships to over 30 countries globally. Always available for a chat at your convenience. Sutherland started packing Washington cherries last Saturday, June 10th. Quality was exceptionally nice for the first day. Unusual, for the the beginning of the Washington deal. Weather and crop conditions have been ideal this season, which is contributing to good packouts. The Chelan cherry variety is showing good colour of +3.5, Firmtech values of +320, and brix of +15. Rainier cherry packing is starting today. Quality is looking very good.
