Great news, we continue to increase our cherry tonnage annually as more new B.C. orchards begin to produce. More Northern late cherry orchards to make Autumn Moon Arrivals in late September. More Southern cherry orchards, which means another large increase in ocean containers for Asia in 2020. Canadian cherries are some of the best in world! Ricky Chong & Mike Lloyd will be managing the Spanish export cherry programs this season. We will both be on-site daily inspecting orchards and export packing quality. Spain has some beautiful cherry varieties, high sugars, crunchy, good sizes and volumes.
Spain will begin export volumes in early May, with peak production during the month of June. A 2019 Maff Roda cherry optical line ugrade to 21-lanes, will allow us to pack significant export volumes daily. Our optical operator is from Chile, and has many years experience packing China export quality. Clients and new buyers can be confident in our Spanish cherry quality. The cherry crop is looking better than anticipated, with larger export volumes available this season.

The harvest is light this season with volumes down 55% from 2017. Early varieties in the southern districts were impacted by spring weather, and volumes will continue to be light until late next week. The first strong export variety has been Coral Champagne Cherries. Surprisingly very good firmness, above average brix (sugar), and larger-than-normal row size percentages.

Fruit quality as you can see, looks fantastic. Usually this block sizes up more than 60% 8 Row & 8.5 Row! We are excited to begin picking, packing and exporting tieton cherries beginning June 27th. Soon afterwards we will start cristalina cherries, then santina, chelan and rainier cherry varieties.
Sutherland started packing Washington cherries last Saturday, June 10th. Quality was exceptionally nice for the first day. Unusual, for the the beginning of the Washington deal. Weather and crop conditions have been ideal this season, which is contributing to good packouts. The Chelan cherry variety is showing good colour of +3.5, Firmtech values of +320, and brix of +15. Rainier cherry packing is starting today. Quality is looking very good.
Fruit Quality Continues to be Excellent Presently we have been packing Coral, Chelan, Tulares & Brooks varieties. No major quality defects. Fruit has been of excellent quality, California is having one of its' best seasons in years.

We are beginning our cherry season in about 7 days! Weather and Crop conditions so far have been ideal and we are anticipating excellent crop availability. The first varieties will be Brooks and Coral Champagne, and Rainier, followed by Bing. Sutherland's QC Team as usual, will be going down to California on Thursday to inspect cherry orchards and monitor quality.
